MALASIQUI etymology

Let's discuss where the name MALASIQUI comes from. I know of three versions, told to me by my father, by my grandfather, and the most commonly noted origin of the name of Malasiqui.


The first version:
There was once three Spanish priests walking along the bridge entering the town proper. As they were passing over the bridge, one of the Spanish priests commented on the smell of the garbage underneath the bridge. "Mal," he said, meaning "bad". The second priest agreed with the first priest and said, "Si!" which means "yes" in Spanish. The third priest, not hearing their short conversation, inquired with "Que?", meaning "what?". So string those three words together and you get the name MALaSIQUE.


The second version:
The word Malasiqui originates from the Pangasinan root word lasi meaning lightning. With prefix ma indicating high degree and suffix qui indicating place - Malasiqui means "place full of lightning". You often hear the exclamatory statement "anak na lasi" from the locals - literally means "son of lightning".


The third version:
Pangasinan was originally a monarchy, ruled over by a queen~ With the last known queen being Queen Urduja. The females of society were regarded more highly than the males. The kingdom of Pangasinan was in Lingayen, which was by the sea. There was a rumor among the females of a jungle village where the men were purported to have "big members". In that jungle village, the men were termed "malusi", a Pangasinan word meaning possessing a big organ. Add to that the suffix qui, meaning place, the town of Malasiqui was named as such, meaning "place where men have big organs".


Now, it is up to you to choose which version you would want to acknowledge as the origin of the town name of Malasiqui.
